“Glee” alum Grant Gustin is heading into superhero territory on The CW’s “Arrow.”
The young actor has been cast as Barry Allen, who becomes superhero The Flash, on “Arrow,” Access Hollywood has confirmed.
And, he already has some advice from series star, Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen/Arrow.
“Hey @grantgust… You should probably start stretching your hamstrings like… immediately. Congratulations!! #Flash,” Stephen Tweeted on Friday afternoon.
Emily Bett Rickards, who plays Felicity Smoak on the show, also Tweeted over the casting news.
“Anyone else chanting “Gustin. Gustin. Gustin” like they are at a track race? @grantgust #FLASH #Arrow,” she wrote.
According to a character breakdown, “Barry Allen is a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. A comic book fan boy, Barry is obsessed with the Arrow, unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante.”
Barry is a regular man who gets transformed into a superhero with super speed and other super abilities in the comic, and his journey on the show won’t be something that goes down lightly with the gang in Starling City.
“Our characters that people have come to know and like in ‘Arrow’ will react to the extraordinary changes to their world hopefully in a very realistic way,” Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg told reporters in July about adding in The Flash. “These ‘powers’ won’t be treated as common place on the show. They will be extraordinary events and the world and our characters in them will react accordingly.”
Barry/The Flash, will appear in episodes 8, 9 and 20.
David Nutter, who directed the “Arrow” Season 1 pilot, is directing the third episode The Flash is featured in – Episode 20.
“It feels right that he’s doing this,” Kreisberg previously said. “As much as people talk about Marc [Guggenheim] and I for ‘Arrow,’ David really made it what it was with his amazing direction and unparalleled leadership.”
“Arrow” returns for its second season on October 9 at 8/7c on The CW.
