Crystal Bowersox Returns To ‘American Idol’ Competition Following Hospitalization

Crystal Bowersox is back.

The singer whose hospitalization earlier this week, reportedly due to diabetes, forced a change in the “American Idol” line up on Tuesday (forcing the men to sing a day earlier), competed on Wednesday night.

Show host Ryan Seacrest addressed what happened with Crystal, who said she was “good” following her hospitalization.

The dreadlocked 24-year-old mom from Ohio added she is a “tough cookie.”

And she proved her mettle, performing the Creedence Clearwater Revival song, “Long As I Can See The Light” – a performance for which Simon Cowell commended her.

“I know how sick you were over the last 24 hours,” Simon said. “It wasn’t just like catching a cold or something, you really were ill, and I didn’t know whether you were gonna be back here this week.

“What’s great about you is you didn’t play the whole sympathy thing,” he continued. “You chose a great song. I have to tell you something… I completely mis-underestimated you from last week, because for you to come back this week with that song, that performance, the vocal was incredible and I promise you this was like the moment we realized with Kelly Clarkson that we’ve got a serious artist here and I think we’ve got a really serious artist with you, congratulations.”

Ellen DeGeneres also sang Crystal’s praises, but mostly she said she was thankful Crystal was back in the competition.

“I’m so glad you’re here today,” Ellen said. “I was so scared for you. Please stay healthy. We need you here. You’re amazing.”
