Dish Of Salt: Friday TV Round Up (January 29, 2010)

Looking for something to do this weekend? I’ve got your guide to what to watch on TV — from dating shows to the grandaddy of all music award shows. I’ll also tell you how you can get caught up on “Lost” and where you can find scenes from Tuesday’s season six premiere episode on today’s Friday TV Round Up.

“Lost” New Scenes Finally Revealed
This morning, I got an e-mail saying that the first four minutes of the “Lost” season premiere episode were floating around out there on the internet. Needless to say, I was excited to watch the clip which someone found on comingsoon.net (Check it out for yourself HERE). I was slightly disappointed though when I realized it wasn’t actually the first four minutes. It really was the first two minutes –because we have already seen the first two minutes of this clip. Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) buried under the debris and waking up just in time to detonate the hydrogen bomb was how season five left off. So after we see Juliet once again bang a rock on the bomb, the clip cuts to a flashback that seems hauntingly familiar. It’s Jack (Matthew Fox) back on an airplane that is experiencing turbulence. That’s because it should be familiar. It’s a replica of almost the exact same flashback scene from the pilot episode in 2004 with two differences, one subtle. The other not subtle at all. Subtle – no one running up to the front of the plane at the first sign of turbulence. Not subtle – this time the plane doesn’t crash. The turbulence subsides. I knew the scene looked familiar, but 2004 was a long time ago and I really couldn’t remember it. So, I went on hulu.com (which leading up to premiere has all five seasons available for viewing) and scanned through the pilot looking for the scene and there it was. So the question is, what does this all mean? Did Juliet detonate the bomb and actually manage to change the future? I guess we will all have to wait until Tuesday, February 2 at 9 PM to find out. For anyone looking of a refresher of the series, or if you are a first timer to the party (via hulu) you better get cracking. You’ve got 103 episodes to watch! That should take you about four days.

Be sure and check out my recent interviews with the cast where they reveal what they will miss the most and least about filming the show. Watch the videos HERE.

What To Watch This Weekend
Now if you are not catching up on your “Lost” episodes, there is still plenty of TV to choose from this weekend. Of course, we have the monster of all music shows. The Grammy Awards air Sunday night on CBS. Personally, I really don’t care who wins. The Grammys hands down has the best musical performances of any show each year.

If music isn’t your thing, than how about a little “Tough Love”? This little gem of a dating show wraps up its second season with a finale on VH-1 at 9 PM on Sunday. Trust me, when it comes to relationship TV, this show is way better than “The Bachelor.” In fact, there are plenty of ex-contestants from ABC’s train wreck dating show that could soooo use a trip to host Steve Ward’s boot camp. (Crazy Michelle, are you listening?)

Ward tells me the finale is going to be a good one, “I think its a very dramatic season finale. The women were given a promise ring to symbolize a ‘promise to change’. Of course giving it to someone, that was a major contributor to that change, would be nice but see who does just that and see who doesn’t!”

Speaking of dating shows, there is an interesting offering from FOX Reality Channel. Internet pinup girl Cindy Margolis is looking for love in her new series, “Seducing Cindy.” Forty-something divorcee Cindy is looking for love amongst some of her biggest fans. Twenty four guys, ranging in age from 18 to 71, will compete for her affections. 18? You go girl! AOL TV has the first episode already available to watch before it airs on Saturday night. Let me just say, as a single woman, if this is the pool of men available to date then I shall remain single forever! I mean, seriously. They asked the guys what they liked best about Cindy and one guy said “her boobs” while the dirty old man (the 71-year-old guy) of the group said after seeing her in Playboy was her… well it starts with a “V” and I’ll let you figure out what he likes about her.

“Desperate” New Dude
So I have never seen the BBC show “Torchwood,” but apparently some folks around here are big fans of the main character Captain Jack played by John Barrowman. There was some excitement from them when news was announced that Barrowman would be joining the cast of “Desperate Housewives.” According to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s creator Marc Cherry was a fan as well and lobbied to get Barrowman. He’ll be an integral part of the Drea de Matteo mystery storyline, which I’m guessing means he will be a bad dude. Of course, I had to look him up to see who he was and realized he was on one my favorite cancelled trashy nighttime soaps, “Central Park West.” He was also on NBC’s short-lived trashy nighttime soap, “Titans.” I bet he’s good at playing bad.
