HBO’s “Game of Thrones” finished its first stellar season with shocking deaths, hints of deadly White Walkers and the births of baby dragons – and the show’s stars and creative team say Season 2 will continue to deliver the goods.
“I started reading [the new script] and I was like, ‘What?! It was just an amazing read,” Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays incestuous & captured knight Jaime Lannister, told Access Hollywood at Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego on Thursday.
“It was thrilling, that’s all I can say!” he continued. “If you haven’t read the books, you’re going to be in for a treat. A treat, not a shock, a treat.”
Nikolaj told Access that fans should expect some exciting changes that will differ from the best-selling George R. R. Martin novels.
“I heard they were going to add new characters, but I didn’t know what that meant,” he explained. “I know now. And it’s very cool.”
Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, ended the season with newly hatched dragons and a desire to reclaim her place at the throne, told Access her beloved character will continue to blossom.
”[My character will get] stronger and stronger,” she explained. “She just goes on, from strength to strength.”
Emilia revealed that baring all last season – with a few baby dragons strategically covering some of her body – was challenging.
“The final nude scene, I think was good. Hopefully you were looking at the dragons, not everything else! [But,] obviously absolutely petrifying!” she explained.
Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, said his character would continue to brave extreme weather conditions while shooting.
“It was cold last season, but this season we’re going to Iceland,” he said. “It’s going to be freezing, so that’s going to be a bit of a task…it’s pretty grueling stuff for Jon Snow.”
And will the audience see Jon find a possible love interest in Season 2?
“I think you might is what I’ll say, you might,” he added.
Access also caught up with “Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss who remained mum on most plot details for the upcoming season but hinted the show’s penchant for killing will continue.
“There will be blood!” Weiss told Access.
They also revealed that some plot details from Martin’s third novel, “A Storm of Swords,” will be used in Season 2.
“Game of Thrones” returns to HBO in 2012 and production begins next week in Northern Ireland
