Glam Slam: Punk’d!

In a sea of punk’d up do’s at the Met ball, (hello Miley Cyrus!) there were also some looks that were edgy, yet still wearable. Release your inner punk-rock goddess with hair inspiration from Kristen Stewart and Julianne Hough.

KRISTEN STEWART

WHO:

Celebrity stylist Adir Abergel

THE LOOK:

A deep-sided slicked back coif with a low knot

THE INSPIRATION:

1950’s greaser meets Peter Lindbergh’s iconic images of 1990’s androgynous style.

HAIR HOW TO:

First start by applying a Kusko Murphy Volumizer all over the roots on towel-dried hair.

Then create a deep side part by following the highest part of your eyebrow arch.

Follow by rough drying your hair completely and then take the top section of the hair and blow-dry it smooth with a round brush, Adir loves Ibiza boar bristle brushes.

Once you are done smoothing the hair take a Mason Pearson brush and slick both sides of the hair back into a low knot at the base of your head.

After the sides are slicked back and in a knot, then take the remaining top section of the hair leaving some height in the front and slick it back around the existing knot to complete the look.

Use Fekkai Sheer hold for all night hold. Secure with a few bobby pins and hairpins.

JULIANNE HOUGH

WHO:

Celebrity stylist Riawna Capri

THE LOOK:

Riawna and Julianne went for an edgy, modern updo – a modern pompadour with over 100 black bobby pins to contrast with her blonde hair.

HAIR HOW TO:

First, prep wet hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse to create lots of volume and texture.

Then spritz Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray to protect hair while blow drying it. Blow dry hair with round brush until completely dry.

Apply a small amount of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Mega Firm Hold Gel to the hair. Taking 1 inch sections create a smooth ponytail on the side of the head. Secure each ponytail with a clear, plastic hair tie and repeat until you have three ponytails on each side.

Taking loose pieces of hair use black bobby pins and create tight secured style. Use bobby pins creatively to achieve edgier style.

Take bangs and slightly twist, while pulling back to create a vintage curl pompadour. Secure at the back of the head by crossing black bobby pins.

Use Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray to design the hair look. Once you have hair in place, lock the style in place with the Extra Firm Hold Hairspray.
