LOS ANGELES (November 10, 2006) — Taylor Hicks, eat your heart out.
“American Idol” alum Kellie Pickler has landed her own (get ready for this?) sitcom on Fox, according to Variety.
Kellie will play “a naïve small-town Southern girl” who discovers that her biological father is the state’s governor. When his dreams of the White House are put in jeopardy, it’s his newfound relationship with his daughter that helps his standing in the polls, per Variety.
Simon Fuller, who serves as executive producer for “Idol,” will co-exec produce Pickler’s project.
News of the project comes on the heels of Pickler’s first album debuting at #9 on last week’s Billboard charts. Kellie’s “Small Town Girl” sold over 79,000 copies in its first week of release.
Despite finishing sixth on last year’s “Idol,” Kellie drew quite a following due to her southern charm, brash honesty and of course, her frequent and severe mispronunciation of words.
No word yet on whether the show will include any salmon or calamari.
