Jaime Pressly Explains TV Return In ‘I Hate My Teenage Daughter’

Jaime Pressly heads back to the world of sitcoms with the new FOX comedy, “I Hate My Teenage Daughter,” but the Emmy winner (for “My Name Is Earl”) said it took a great show to woo her back.

“I really wanted to make sure that what I did wasn’t something that just was gonna be half-a**ed, that it was something that was gonna be really, really great, working with really great people and also from great writers,” the actress told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman. “We got all of that.”

After “Earl,” Jaime took a break, staying at home with her son, Dezi, now 4.

“He was just a year and a half old when I stopped shooting ‘Earl,’ so I got two years to be home with him, which was wonderful,” she said.

Still, Jaime said she was glad to get back to work.

“I couldn’t run back to work quick enough, though,” the funny star said with a laugh. “All you at-home mothers? Kudos to you. I cannot do what you do. I did it and it was tough.

“I had help… I had a nanny help me and it was still hard,” Jaime added.

Jaime plays a single mom raising a “Mean Girls”-esque teenage daughter alongside her best friend, played by double Tony winner Katie Finneran, who also has a snooty teen.

Going from “Earl’s” aggressive Joy to her “IHMTD” character Annie was the right project, Jaime said.

“Joy was such a big character, I had to let that die down for a little bit and then I realized it’s not dying down ‘cause she’s on seven days a week now [in syndication], so the only way I was gonna get away from it was doing something the complete opposite, which is this character Annie, and this show.”

“IHMTD” premieres November 30 at 9:30/8:30 C on FOX.
