Jason Patric Reacts To Court Custody Ruling

Actor Jason Patric scored a victory on Wednesday in the custody battle over his 4-year-old son Gus. Patric wants to be recognized as the boy’s father and not just the sperm donor.

In a new interview with Access Hollywood on Thursday, Patric spoke about the California appeals court ruling that allows him to pursue legal custody of the young boy.

“[It’s] a huge victory, a huge victory,” Jason said. “And it’s one step closer to having Gus back in my arms.”

“This victory, at the appeal level, has great significance, not just for my case, but for many, many other people,” Patric added. “It’s a published opinion now.”

In Access’ interview with Patric, he revealed that he has not seen his son, who was conceived through in-vitro fertilization, in over a year.

“I haven’t seen him for 64 weeks,” the actor told Access.

In 2013, a court ruled that Patric was considered a sperm donor, with no legal right to parent with his former girlfriend, Danielle Schreiber.

Wednesday’s ruling allows Patric to present evidence that he was a fully-involved father, and deserves the right to be recognized as such.

“The next step is to — I’m allowed to now go into court like I always should have been and give my all my evidence of how I’ve raised Gus and I’m extremely confident with that,” Patric said.

Among the evidence Patric is hoping to use?

“Videos and pictures from every single aspect of his life. School forms that list me as the father… pediatrician forms, you know, anything that a father would do,” he said.

While Wednesday’s ruling clears the way to offer proof in court, Jason must separately seek visitation rights.

“I’m gonna petition to have my custody back pending this trial and I think that’s gonna happen,” he told Access Hollywood.

Schreiber’s team, however, sees it differently, saying in a statement, “we respectfully disagree with the court of appeals and we are exploring our options and should make a decision shortly.”
