Jennifer Hudson: ‘Everyone Has Been So Supportive’

Jennifer Hudson hit the red carpet at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night with fiance David Otunga by her side, and she told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson how grateful she is for all of the support she has received from friends and fans over the last several months.

“Everyone has been so supportive and it’s overwhelming,” Jennifer said of the outpouring of love, well wishes and condolences from those moved by the singer’s family tragedy. “I’m clearly blessed and highly favored, so I’m just glad to be here.”

The singer, whose mother, brother and nephew were tragically murdered last fall, said that despite her tough times, the Grammy Awards was a show she felt it was important to attend.

“This is what I’ve always dreamt of you know, this is what I’ve always wanted to do, and now this time has come and I’m here,” she said. “I’m excited.”

Jennifer sang “You Pulled Me Through,” from her self-titled 2008 album at the show, and on the red carpet, she explained to Shaun what the song meant to her.

“It’s definitely a very emotional and close-to-home song, but I like to connect to my music,” Jennifer said. “That’s what it’s about — you connecting and giving it away at the same time.”

And it appears Jennifer is happy to be back in the spotlight. She said her recent slew of performances – the Super Bowl last week, the MusiCares benefit honoring Neil Diamond on Friday, Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party on Saturday and the Grammys – have been good for her.

“I’ve been busy, but it feels good,” she said. “This is what I love to do. This is who I am.”

“We’re so glad you’re back,” Shaun said.

“Thank you,” Jennifer replied. “I’m glad to be back.”
