Kristin Davis Talks Heading Back To Work After Adopting Baby Gemma

Kristin Davis is back at work on the set of the Lifetime movie “Of Two Minds,” her first acting project since it was revealed she adopted a baby girl, 4-and-a-half-month old Gemma.

“I have to say, it’s still really stressful,” the new mom told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman of combining work and parenting. “I have amazing help or I would never get through it. But last week we had a day where I didn’t see her awake. I left in the dark I got home in the dark.”

“And that hurt?” Laura asked.

“I saw her when she was sleeping, but it really does, and then you feel, you know, wrong inside, so it’s a struggle,” Kristin said.

Not a struggle was adopting baby Gemma.

“For me, it wasn’t that long of a process and I hesitate to say that because I feel like people don’t really understand adoption, and there are a lot of misconceptions, and I know there’s kind of a cynical view that famous people somehow buy their babies which is, you know, very, very far from the truth,” Kristin said. “There are a lot of laws involved in adoption and everybody has to go through the same process.”

Both Kristin and Laura are single moms and in an emotional moment during Laura’s visit to the “Of Two Minds” set, they shared a common bond.

“I’ve found that when they have their milestones, when they smile for you the first time or they laugh for the first time, you want to turn to somebody and be like, ‘This is so great.’ And you can’t do that,” an emotional Laura said.

“It’s true. But you see that woman holding her?” Kristin said, instructing the Access camera crew not to turn around and focus on the woman holding Kristin’s daughter. “That’s who I turn to. And also my mom.”

While life is happy behind the scenes for Kristin, on-screen she’s dealing with major drama, playing the sister of a schizophrenic, played by Tammy Blanchard, in the 2012-due Lifetime movie, “Of Two Minds.” Louise Fletcher of “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” fame plays Aunt Will, the mom-figure to the two women.

“If someone has heart disease or cancer, you kind of know what to do, and if someone is mentally ill, it’s a lot more unclear,” Kristin said.

In “Of Two Minds,” Kristin plays Billie Clark, who reluctantly has to look after her sibling.

“My character is the caretaker, she doesn’t want to be the caretaker, but she’s cast into that role,” Kristin explained.

The project also finds the actress playing the wife of “V” star Joel Gretsch, whose real life spouse, Melanie Shatner, is close friends with Kristin.

“I was there on their first date and I was there at their wedding,” Kristin said. “Melanie is a very confident woman, she is not concerned… There’s no fear. I kissed [Sarah Jessica Parker’s husband] Matthew Broderick, so I can do anything.”
