Lady Gaga & Cher Team Up For ‘The Greatest Thing’

Lady Gaga and Cher have teamed up for a new duet.

The pop superstars recorded a new single, “The Greatest Thing,” for Cher’s upcoming 26th studio album.

“Can hardly wait 4 GT 2 Come Out!” Cher Tweeted on Tuesday. “Was XCITED ‘Bout Making New cd, But Wasn’t Expecting BIG Surprises…& THEN…… SURPRISE ! GAGA ! DUET !”

The song, penned by Lady Gaga, was originally set to be performed by a solo Cher, according to Rolling Stone, but evolved into a collaboration between the two divas.

“Who knew a year ago when I was crying in her arms after she gave me an award, that today we would record a duet,” Lady Gaga Tweeted on Tuesday, referencing her 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, where Cher, 65, presented the 25-year-old artist with the Video of the Year Award. “@Cher You are The Greatest.”

In related Mother Monster news, Lady Gaga will open the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, where she’s nominated for Best Female Video and Best Video With a Message for her hit, “Born This Way,” as well as nods for Best Art Direction and Best Choreography for “Judas.”
