Mark Salling Weighs In On ‘Glee’s’ Racy GQ Photos; Debuts New Album

Mark Salling, “Glee’s” resident hunky bad boy Puck, is standing up for his co-stars in the wake of their controversial GQ photo spread.

“There [are] always critics, no matter what you do,” Mark told Access Hollywood on Thursday, at the premiere party for his debut album. “It’s art and that’s the beauty of it, you know? As long as you follow your heart you can’t go wrong — it’s art.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Mark’s “Glee” co-stars, Lea Michele and Dianna Agron, appear in a scantily clad spread for GQ (the popular men’s mag), along with co-star (a fully clothed) Cory Monteith for the upcoming November 2010 issue – a move that quickly drew the ire of the Parents Television Council, who dubbed the photos “nearly pornographic.”

Starring on “Glee” hasn’t changed the actor’s personal music style, though he credits the hit FOX series with exposing him to new genres.

“I don’t know if it changed the style of the band,” Mark told Access. “It’s definitely exposed me to a lot of music that I haven’t been [exposed to] before, a lot of musical theater stuff which I really appreciate now, a lot of pop stuff that I appreciate now cause I’m kind of a music nerd.

“I don’t really listen to the radio but you know [“Glee”] is kind of exposing me to some of that and that’s always good.”

As for his new solo debut album, “Pipe Dreams,” the star deems it “kind of classic rock,” and “kind of jazz/folk.”

“I think [the album] is melodic and hopefully people enjoy the melody and the lyrics — that’s most important,” he added.

“Pipe Dreams” is available in stores and on iTunes on Monday, October 25.
