Miley Cyrus is continuing her career evolution with a new role in the thriller “Wake.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 17-year-old actress is attached to star in a big screen adaptation of the Lisa McMann’s young-adult paranormal novel.
“Wake” is the first book in a trilogy about a 17-year-old girl, Janie, who has the ability to be transported into people’s dreams and must face the consequences of witnessing things she’s not supposed to see.
Paramount and MTV Films have snatched up the right to “Wake’s” sequels, “Fade” and “Gone,” which chronicle Janie’s dealings with the dark side of her high school teachers. No word if Miley will reprise the role for the subsequent films.
Co-stars, a director and a start date for the project have not been announced, but “Disturbia” co-writer Christopher Landon will adapt the book for the big screen.
Miley was last seen in “The Last Song,” and also had a cameo in “Sex and The City 2.” She is slated to start work on “LOL” with Demi Moore this summer.
In more Miley news, the star is set to hit the Internet in a big way next week when MTV.com and its partner sites host an exclusive free global live stream of Miley’s album release concert on June 21. The live concert, taking place at LA’s House of Blues on the Sunset Strip, will feature the young star debuting tracks from her forthcoming album, “Can’t Be Tamed,” which will be released on the same day.
“I’m so excited to perform my new music live in concert on the night of my album release. Thanks to MTV Networks, my fans from all around the world have the opportunity to be a part of it and experience it with me,” Miley said in a statement.
On Friday, the teen star will be joined by Bret Michaels on “Good Morning America,” where they will perform the Poison hit, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” together, which Miley covers on her new album.
