MTV Movie Awards: Dwayne Johnson & Kevin Hart Promise ‘Epic’ & ‘Cooler’ Show

The MTV Movie Awards are doubling down in honor of a special milestone.

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart have teamed up to emcee this year’s event, which marks the show’s 25th anniversary and the first time in more than a decade that two hosts will take the helm.

Access Hollywood attended a press conference with the actors and “Central Intelligence” co-stars on Friday, and got a preview of what the duo has in mind for the big night.

“You got me and D.J. hosting, I don’t think it gets bigger than that,” Kevin said, revealing his nickname for Dwayne. “When you wanna go big, you get the biggest. And right now, you got it.”

The comedian said it only made sense for the cable network to expand its reach with a tag-teaming effort from him and Dwayne.

“In order to do something where you want to go above and beyond, you set the platform to do so, and what MTV is always good at is pushing the envelope. I think each year they recreate themselves and try and outdo what they did in the years of the past. I’m glad they decided to step out the box and get two hosts,” he added.

Dwayne agreed, saying that he and Kevin were up for the task from day one.

“They wanted to make it bigger, better,” he said. “There were a lot of themes, but one of them was also recognizing that it was the 25th anniversary. And with that, the challenge comes in, well, ‘How are we going to make it epic? How are we going to make it big?'”

According to the star, their mission has already been accomplished.

“You’ll see,” he teased. “Almost every moment
is a big, epic moment for everybody. So everybody shines, in a real big
way.”

The guys noted that the awards show landscape is a crowded
one, but said they were confident the MTV Movie Awards stand out on their own.

“It’s just cooler,” Kevin smiled. “That’s the
word. Let’s just hit the nail on the head with this one. The Oscars are the
Oscars, and you gotta take your hat off and always respect the Oscars, but this
is a time to loosen up and take the edge off.”

However, Dwayne noted that more formal affairs might have
their perks.

“But me in a tux, though,” he joked.

The 2016 MTV Movie Awards air Sunday, April 10 at 8/7c on
MTV.
