Nick Cannon Battling ‘Lupus Type’ Autoimmune Disease: ‘I Feel Blessed To Be Alive’

Nick Cannon has been stricken with a rash of health problems of late – including kidney failure in January and weeks later, blood clots in his lung.

Now, the “America’s Got Talent” host says doctors have discovered an autoimmune disease is at the root of his recent medical issues.

“It’s a lot of stuff, but it’s all in order now,” Nick told People at an event in New York City on Wednesday. “They kind of say [my] autoimmune [disease] is – like a lupus type of thing, but no one else in my family has it.”

The 31-year-old said the development of blood clots in his lungs was especially shocking as he seemed to be on the mend following his bout of kidney failure.

“I thought I was getting better,” Nick told the mag. “And then that happened, so that kind of came out of nowhere.”

After stepping down from his New York radio show last month to focus on his health, Nick says he’s keeping his focus on getting healthy and spending time with wife Mariah Carey and their twins.

“I feel blessed to be alive,” he said. “If it wasn’t discovered, I don’t know [what would have happened].”
