Nicole Beharie: ‘Sleepy Hollow’ Season 2 Will Be ‘Juicy’

“Sleepy Hollow” ended its Season 1 run on Fox with a huge cliffhanger, but the show will be back and series stars Nicole Beharie and Tom Mison have promised big things.

“We know it’s gonna be juicy and it’s gonna be unexpected,” Nicole told Access Hollywood on Monday at the Fox Upfronts in New York City.

“We know that they left it for all of the characters on such a high note and all of the writers are determined to have that as the starting point,” Tom said, making a motion with his hand to indicate that the bar is set high. “So it can only build from there, really.”

And “there” is already a big a starting point. At the end of Season 1, Tom’s Ichabod was wrapped in roots and thrown into his son’s grave by his now very grown up child, Henry, who happens to be the Second Horseman of the Apocalypse. Nicole’s Lt. Abbie Mills was stranded in purgatory.

When the show was first introduced last fall, Nicole said there were concerns over whether people would cotton on to what they were trying to do with the drama.

“Initially, I think, when the show hit the air, we weren’t sure that people would like get it and follow it and take that leap, but people are with us, and the fans, themselves — we have like really devoted, I think you call them like, ‘superfans,’ ‘fan girls’ that like paint pictures and they follow every second of the show. We’re really lucky,” Nicole said.

“It’s the type of show that we get very talented fans, I think because they’re always having their imagination sparked, so we get lots of pictures and we get fan fiction. Mainly about—” Tom said, pointing at himself and his co-star, Nicole.

“Usually dirty fan fiction,” Nicole chimed in, laughing. “Stop doing that.”

“That’s the stuff that I wrote. I’m afraid,” Tom jokingly confessed.

Tom, of course, dons a wig and 18th century clothes to play Ichabod in the series, and his real life look, which is definitively more modern and clean cut, has put him in situations where he’s gone unrecognized by fans.

“I’ve sat in a pub in North Carolina and there have been two people sitting next to me talking about the show, not having a clue that there was a wigless Ichabod sitting next to them,” he said.

“Sleepy Hollow” returns to Fox this fall.
