On The Download: 2010 Musicians to Watch: Part I

A new year and a fresh crop of future music all stars are angling to make their mark. From pop, to R&B, to country, beginning this week On the Download presents our picks for those who are Ones To Watch in 2010.

Ke$ha: “Tik Tok!” The clock is just starting for this energetic 22-year-old. Her debut album, “Animal,” has bumped Susan Boyle from the top of the charts in its first week of release. Already, Ke$ha (pronounced keh-shuh) has set the record for the biggest track sales week by any female artist in history when “TiK Tok” received 610,069 downloads. She also has the unique distinction of being featured on the only two tracks to ever sell over 500,000 singles in one week, “Tik Tok,” as well as Flo Rida’s ‘Right Round” — the current record holder for biggest track sales in a single week.

Drake: This hip-hop and R&B hottie has teased us with his mixed tapes and now this is the year when we’ll finally hear what Drake has to offer, as he makes his albumfull-length album debut. 2010 is Drake’s time to shine. He’s already collaborated with the likes of Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Timbaland and Eminem. Then there were those rumors about dating Rihanna. Not bad for this 23-year-old whom some will remember as Jimmy Brooks from Canada’s “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”

Justin Bieber: If you haven’t heard of him, you probably don’t have a tween in your household. 15-year-old Bieber is all the rage with ‘the kids’ nowadays. An Internet sensation, a la Susan Boyle for the older set, he is mobbed at malls, has seen fans riot at his appearances and was caught in a tug-of-war between Usher and Justin Timberlake to launch his career. JT lost to Usher. Bieber’s debut album “My World (Part I) came out last fall, and now look for Part II this spring.
