‘Outlander’: Black Jack Returns In ‘The Garrison Commander’

Black Jack is back and Starz has released a host of photos from his “Outlander” return this Saturday night on Starz.

“The Garrison Commander” is the sixth episode in the first season of the drama, and on Saturday night at 9 PM, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) will run into one of the first faces she saw after traveling back in time from 1945 to 1743 – Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall, played by Tobias Menzies

Last time the two met was in the series premiere when Claire realized she had come face to face with her husband’s ancestor, someone Frank Randall had little in common with.

“I suppose it’s when the time travel aspect of it really lands narratively because you have this moment where she sees someone who looks exactly like her husband, she even exclaims his name and then there’s that kind of crunchy kind of twist, of like, ‘Oh no, wait a minute. This isn’t Frank. This is an ancestor. We must be several hundred years in the past,'” Tobias told Access Hollywood of the Jack/Claire interaction in Episode 1.

Asked if that first meeting defined the Jack/Claire relationship forever, Tobias said it is just a starting point.

“No, I think it’s a beginning, but it goes on a quite an interesting journey and I think certainly gets more interesting and more complicated when he realizes that she subsequently becomes involved with Jamie, and this is a person who Jack is very intrigued by, and so that’s a big part of his relationship with Claire is her connection with Jamie Fraser,” Tobias said.

“Outlander” continues Saturday night at 9 PM on Starz.
