Following the sudden death of Philip Seymour Hoffman on Sunday, Lionsgate – the studio which produces “The Hunger Games” franchise films — released a statement on the tragic loss of the actor, who played Plutarch Heavensbee in the second installment, “Catching Fire.”

“Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family,” the statement read. “Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family.”

As for how Hoffman’s passing will affect the upcoming two-part “Mockingay” movies, Access Hollywood has learned Hoffman’s work as Plutarch in “Mockingjay – Part 1” was substantially complete, and that he had seven shooting days remaining on “Part 2.”

A source close to production told Access the films’ previously set release dates,November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015, respectively, will not be affected.
