Report: Paula Abdul Lines Up New ‘Star Search’ Gig

Paula Abdul may have hooked her “Star” to ABC.

The former “American Idol” judge has been tapped to headline a reboot of “Star Search” for the network, according to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello.

Although Paula’s role on the show is still being worked out, Ausiello reports it could be double duty, as she would likely take on a combination of hosting and judging.

A spokesperson for ABC had no comment on the story when contacted by Access Hollywood.

A rep for Paula wasn’t immediately available for comment .

Since announcing her departure from the “American Idol” judges’ table back in August, a flurry of rumored new gigs has swirled around the “Straight Up” diva.

ABC was reportedly courting Paula to join the cast of “Dancing with the Stars,” while talk of Paula joining Simon Cowell on his U.S. launch of “The X Factor” in the fall has also been rampant.

In February, a rep for the Oprah Winfrey Network shot down a report Paula had lined up her own talk show for the cable channel.

In an interview with the “John Jay & Rich Show” on Phoenix’s 104.7 FM, Paula hinted at a possible new gig involving her performing background.

“I’m gonna be going back to my roots and doing a TV show that has something to do with my roots,” she told the radio show in February. “I’m going back to doing some teaching on television in that kind of capacity.”

The original “Star Search” aired from 1983 – 1995 with Ed McMahon as the host. Arsenio Hall later fronted a short-lived reboot in 2003.
