Robert Redford Confirms Captain America: The Winter Soldier Role

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is getting a shot of Hollywood royalty with the addition of Robert Redford.

After weeks of rumors, the Oscar winner confirmed his involvement in the upcoming Marvel movie and revealed who he’ll be playing.

”[I’m] the head of S.H.I.E.L.D,” he told Spinoff Online, referring to the character that would be in charge of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and the rest of the international espionage and law-enforcement agency.

So why did the Sundance Film Festival founder throw his hat into the Marvel Universe starring alongside Chris Evans?

“The ‘Captain America’ thing is just a very simple thing,” he said. “I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it’s bold in terms of expectations, I guess.”

He previously told The Los Angeles Times that stepping into the superhero film world would be tapping into one of his childhood joys.

“I think these films are really powerful. I think they’re great. This is the kind of film I would have loved to see as a kid,” he last week.

Also appearing in the Marvel sequel are Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson and Anthony Mackie, who is playing The Falcon.
