The CW’s “Arrow” has just four more episodes to go in its first season and on Tuesday, star Stephen Amell returned to one of the origins of his journey — the very screening room in Burbank, Calif., where he first tested for the role in front of executives at the network.
“I came in here to test,” Stephen said, looking around after stepping back into the spot, which on Tuesday was filled not with network execs, but with television reporters. “We had Peter Roth from Warner Bros., who I already tested for. He didn’t have to be here, he was planted as like a mole so that when I could come in here, I could have a good conversation, like a fun-loving conversation with somebody because David Nutter, our director, was like, ‘Coming in and having a good conversation with somebody is pretty much as important as coming in and reading the lines correctly.’”

In response to a question from Access, Stephen said he had no idea how successful his “Arrow” journey would be back in the early days.
“There was no way that I could have thought forward to where we are now,” he said.
“I couldn’t have anticipated being here,” he added. “We didn’t even know we’d have a full season.”
The cast recently wrapped shooting the show’s season finale, which he said took around 10 days to shoot, and during the 40-minute chat with reporters, Stephen dropped many hints about the episodes ahead. Among the hints – there’s more trouble with Diggle (David Ramsey), and some adventure for Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards).
Diggle is “becoming a little bit obsessive,” Stephen said, about taking down Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot, the man who is believed to have killed Diggle’s brother. “So, at least momentarily, he is not at my disposal and I have to send young Miss Smoak into the field.”
Dr. Markov hits the canvas at the end of Episode 21, according to Stephen, who was fairly tightlipped about how the character (Geo-Force in the Marvel world) truly features in the show. “We get the explanation as to what Dr. Markov’s purpose is in Episode 21, and then the realization who he is, is pretty immediate in Episode 21. It’s so immediate that I really can’t say anything,” he said.
Also, expect more combat with John Barrowman’s Dark Archer and Stephen’s Arrow before the season is up.
“There are a couple of fights-s to go,” Stephen said, putting in an extra “s” for emphasis. “It’s wonderful because we have this entire mythology for the season and in Episode 21, we’re flashing back to before Oliver set sail on the Queen’s Gambit with his dad, and the entire mythology of our first season — the reason why almost everybody is doing what they’re doing — is laid out by Barrowman in this very eloquent John Barrowman-esque monologue … But it’s nice because it pays off what we’ve been setting up.”
