Contrary to reports, Stevie Wonder did not lose his house in the Porter Ranch fire, which swept through an area north of Los Angeles earlier this week.
The New York Post reported the musical icon’s home in the area had gone up in flames in the blaze, citing a source as saying, “Everything was destroyed – all of Stevie’s memorabilia, photos, musical instruments, history, clothing, furniture, everything…It’s all gone.”
City News Service wires later picked up the Post’s report.
However, Wonder told Access Hollywood that his home in the area escaped any serious damage.
“I’m grateful to say that my house was not burned down in the fire,” Wonder said in a statement to Access. “I extend my sympathies to anyone who may have been touched by this horrendous event.”
The fire in the Porter Ranch area has blackened over 14,000 acres and has claimed 15 homes and 47 buildings. Authorities said the fire began when a power line fell onto a dry brush area.
