The Rock Pumped To Play ‘Mad Mofo’ Superhero Black Adam

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is about to leap into the superhero world in a role that has been in the works for a decade.

The Rock will play Black Adam (a villainous ancient Egyptian prince with incredible powers) in the upcoming DC Comics movie “Shazam!”

“I’m excited about Black Adam,” he told Access Hollywood at the “Furious 7” junket.

“It’s the opportunity to create a character…we start off just paying homage to the mythology, as he started off as a slave [in ancient Egypt,]” he explained.

The actor said the character’s past will inform what fans see on the big screen in a big way.

“When you start off as a slave – you ain’t happy!” The Rock said. “You’re coming into the thing pissed off and then in his power that was bestowed upon him, he uses it.”

Adding, “He’s a mad mofo and he’s gotta go to work!”

The Rock won’t appear on the big screen as Black Adam until 2019 (unless the character pops up in another upcoming DC movie, perhaps “Justice League” or “Suicide Squad”?!), but he explained that he’s been connected to the fan-favorite villain-turned-anti-hero for a decade.

“The Black Adam character has been with me for almost 10 years,” he said. “I can promise them that we’re taking meticulous care with this character.”
