After months of rumors, Marvel has confirmed that Vin Diesel has been cast in “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
The “Fast & Furious” star will voice (and provide motion-captured movements for) the character of Groot, an alien that resembles a massive walking tree with the ability to control plant life, regenerate and change his mass at will.
Vin set the Internet abuzz with speculation after posting a photo of the Marvel character on his Facebook page back in August.
The actor joins a cast which includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Zoe Saldana as Gamora and Dave Bautista as Drax.
Benecio Del Toro will continue in his role as The Collector (as first seen in a post-credits scene of “Thor: The Dark World”), and Glenn Close will play Nova Prime.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” is set to hit theaters on August 1, 2014.
