Will Smith Planning 2016 Tour With DJ Jazzy Jeff, New Music In The Works

First a new song, and now Will Smith is looking to hit the road on a world tour with new music.

In an interview with Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show, the actor/rapper said he’s “pretty certain” he will embark on a world tour in summer 2016 and he’ll be bringing along longtime sidekick and collaborator DJ Jazzy Jeff.

In addition to a possible world tour, Will said he’s recorded 30 new tracks with “six or seven that I really, really like, that I’m trying to get the ideas to come out right.”

The rapper admitted that jumping back into the music world has “terrified” him.

“When you’ve had a certain amount of success, it seems like it should breed confidence. But it actually doesn’t… When you win a lot, and then you lose the ability to lose. You’re not allowed to lose anymore,” he explained. “You actually lose the ability to create. The reckless abandon – and it’s something I’m actually getting back from watching my kids. They really don’t care. That kind of reckless abandon and that lack of fear. And not trying to protect anything, and not trying to live up to a legacy or anything like that.”

Adding, “Fear is the killer of creativity, man. And there’s also a misconception about failing. No, you have to fail a lot. You have to fail early. You have to fail often. And you have to fail forward. So I’m trying to get comfortable getting back to failing.”

Last week, Will made his return to music for the first time in 10 years on a remix of Colombian band Bomba Estereo’s song, “Fiesta.” The 47-year-old said the track is him “shaking the rust off, knocking the dust off.”

And according to the superstar, he’s got up to another 30 possible years of music in him.

“I’m definitely interested in pushing the envelope of spittin’ – how far can you go? I’m [gonna] keep giving it a shot up until I’m 70 or 80 years old,” he said. “I’m just trying to still find that voice. I have so many things that I wanna say. I’m struggling with saying ’em in a way that fit the flavor of music that I tend to like.”
