Young Jeezy Slips By Hicks To #1 On Billboard Chart

Last Season’s “American Idol” champ Taylor Hicks makes a strong debut this week, selling 298,199 copies of his self-titled album, but it’s not enough to grant him the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart.

He was bested by Young Jeezy, whose new album “The Inspiration” took #1, outselling Hicks by approximately 54,000.

Interestingly, Taylor’s castmate Chris Daughtry (#7 this week) also had a #2 debut a couple weeks ago, but his album actually sold about 9,000 more copies than Taylor Hicks’ did upon its release.

Where is the “Soul Patrol” when you need them?

Perhaps they’re busy buying the “Hannah Montana” soundtrack, which refuses to leave the Top 10 – in fact, it actually moves up a spot this week, most likely due to the holiday rush, landing at #3 with 273,865 copies sold.

Other albums seeing holiday bumps on this week’s chart include Josh Groban, Carrie Underwood, the Beatles, Tony Bennett, Fergie and the NOW 23 compilation.

Mary J. Blige comes in at #9 with the debut of her greatest hits album, “Reflections (A Retrospective),” but don’t be surprised to see it climb further up the charts due to her recent multiple Grammy nominations.

Il Divo caps off the Top 10, falling 4 places from last week, despite selling about 40,000 more copies this time around.

The hottest downloaded song this week is Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable,” followed close behind by Fergie’s Super-Cala-Fragi-Listic “Fergalicious.” Meanwhile, Mariah Carey’s 1994 holiday ditty “All I Want For Christmas” holds on to a Top 10 position for the second week in a row.

Next week sees “best of” packages from N.W.A., Gang Starr, and music from the “Rocky” films.
